Patel Tonra Ltd. and our associates McIver Consulting undertook a study on behalf of DEHLG on the reduction of nuisance litter caused by chewing gum, fast food packaging and ATM receipts. The report was published in September 2004 by the Minister, and examined the potential use of environmental levies to control this particular environmental nuisance. Click here for futher details.

In 2001, 2002 and 2004 environmental & social accountability reports prepared by Patel Tonra Ltd. won the national Environmental Reporting Awards run by ACCA Ireland. The 2002 award-winning report was also a world-first, being the first written in accordance with best-practice reporting guidelines produced by the Global Reporting Initiative. The 2004 report (based on 2003 information), prepared on behalf of Musgrave Group is available to download here.

We have implemented Environmental Management Systems in a number of organisations, and achieved certification to ISO14001, where required by our clients. The most recent certification, in November 2004, was the first private landfill in Ireland to be awarded the standard.

Patel Tonra Ltd. has extensive experience in environmental auditing, ranging from waste management facilities, the retail and industrial sectors, and Local Authority sectors.

Participation in the delivery of a FÁS-approved Waste Management Training Programme - delivering the modules on "Waste Minimisation and Recycling", "Biological and Thermal Treatment" and "Management of Recovery and Disposal Facilities".

Delivery of an Environmental Awareness Training Programme to over 200 operational staff within a large Irish retail group during Autumn/Winter 2004.

Design and delivery of the FÁS & Local Government National Training Programme for Local Authorities on Environmental Management Systems (EMAS).

Design and delivery of regional Environmental Management Training Programmes for the hotel and tourism sector for Fáilte Ireland.

We have been involved with consultation and public liaison on waste planning applications and waste management licences and permit applications, and recently participated in a Bord Pleanála Oral Hearing for a waste management/recycling facility in Dublin.

We have worked with a large US multinational technology company to devise a worldwide corporate strategy for compliance with the EU Directives on WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and RoHS (Restriction on certain Hazardous Substances).

Preparation of waste licence and waste permit applications on behalf of public and private sector waste management clients.

We have assessed the legislative obligations of a large number of companies under the Packaging Regulations (2003), conducted packaging waste audits and verified data.

Patel Tonra Ltd. carry out routine sampling of groundwater, surface water, dust and noise at licensed facilities, as well as occupational Health & Safety monitoring at industrial/commercial facilities.

Patel Tonra Ltd. has recently participated in the pilot Northern Ireland Green Tourism Certificate Scheme. Our role was in preparing the criteria for green tourism participants. We were also involved in auditing the premises participating in the scheme.

Our staff have had extensive experience in Environmental Due Diligence Reporting for large multinationals, especially in the fields of Waste Management, Electronics, Pharmaceutical/Chemical and Food Processing.
